Optimizing signal timings used to take only few hours – back in times when the traffic models were ahead of computing power. Then we increased computing power but forgot to essentially improve the traffic models. Nowadays, optimization of signals take minutes but field fine-tuning take days. When sophisticated models (such as Vissim) are available, field fine-tuning is almost redundant. Cloud computing enables us to run optimization of signals, within sophisticated models, almost as quickly as conventional methods. However, the resulting signal timings are way more reliable.
Conventional signal optimization methods give you a single solution after each optimization. Retime gives you instead a robust database full of solutions that you can query and display in your own way. This approach allows you to find solutions, even once the optimization is done, that meet your goals and priorities.
